Ingredients

  • 3 pounds potatoes
  • 3 tablespoons salted butter melted
  • 1.5 cups heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon garlic chopped
  • 4 springs thyme chopped
  • 2.5 cups gruyere cheese shredded
  • salt and papper to taste

Instructions

  • First, set your oven to 350 on bake.
  • Next, wash, peel, and slice your potatoes.
  • Chop the garlic and thyme.
  • In a separate bowl, melt the butter and add in the cream and garlic.
  • Shred the cheese.
  • Layer 1/3 of the potatoes in the dish, then top with 1/3 of the cream mixture and a bit of thyme, salt and pepper.
  • Add 3/4 cup of cheese. Repeat for the next two layers, but don’t finish the third layer with the cheese – we’ll add that at the end.
  • Bake in the oven, covered with foil, for about 75 minutes, making sure it doesn’t burn.
  • Once it’s been baked for about 75 minutes, remove the foil and add on the remaining cheese. Bake for another 15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly.
  • Done! Well, almost. Let it stand for about 7 minutes until it’s firmed up a bit. Serve and enjoy.
