Green Sauce

We’re in Mexico on vacation, as I’m sure you can tell from my Akumal Snapshot. The best part is all the food. It’s fresh, delicious, and full of so much flavour – we love Mexican food. This green sauce is something I made as a quick appetizer on the fly, no recipe. We liked it so much I recreated it (as best I could) and jotted down all the ingredients. Let’s get to it!

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle of Herdez Guacamole Salsa
  • 2 large avocados
  • 1/2 of a white onion
  • 1 lime
  • 2 habaneros
  • 3 tablespoons of cilantro
  • 8 tomatillos
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  • First, roast the tomatillos and the habaneros. You can do this on the BBQ or over your gas stove. Roast for about 7 minutes, turning every couple of minutes.
  • While those ingredients are roasting, chop the half onion and put in a bowl.
  • Juice the lime and cover the onions.
  • This will break them down so they’re not so bitter. Then, add in a bit of salt
  • Cube up the avocados and chop the cilantro. Add to the bowl.
  • Once the tomatillos and habaneros are roasted, chop up (oh, and chop up the habaneros very small, you want them to mix in well).
  • Then, pour over the guacamole salsa and your green sauce is complete. Eat with chips, over tacos, or even on top of burgers. It’s that good.
