First, as usual, gather all of your ingredients and measure them out.
In a safe bowl, melt the butter.
Slowly add in the sugar and vanilla. Stir well.
Mix in the flours and baking soda. Stir well and be sure everything is combined.
In a 8x8 pan that is lined by parchment paper, press in 1/2 of the oat mixture.
Bake for 9-10 minutes at 350 degrees.
Take out of the oven and top with chocolate chips and then pour on the caramel sauce over top.
Crumble (not packed on, like the first layer) the remaining oat mixture.
Return the pan to the oven for 14-17 minutes.
Let them cool a bit, then cut and eat!
