Recipe: Carmelita Bars

Carmelita bars. The perfect treat. Milk chocolate, creamy caramel, and toasty oats. Bake this up this weekend, or tonight if you have time! Just don’t forget to share.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 sticks of salted butter
  • 3/4 cup of brown sugar
  • 4 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup of flour
  • 1/4 cup of cake flour
  • 1 cup and 1 tablespoon of whole oats
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup of butterscotch caramel sauce
  • 1 -1 1/2 cups of milk chocolate chips

First – gather all of your ingredients and measure everything out.

Melt the butter and add in the sugar and vanilla. Then slowly add in the flours and baking soda then whisk it all together. Then, mix in the oats.

Get out your 8×8 pan and line it with parchment paper. Spoon in 1/2 the oat mixture and press it into the bottom.

Bake at 350 degrees for 9-10 minutes.

Take it out.

Top with the chocolate chips and then pour over the caramel sauce.

Top with the remaining crumble. Don’t press it all in, just let the topping crumble on top in a crumble like way.

Return to the oven and bake for 14-17 minutes.

Done! Let it cool and then cut.

Instructions

  • First, as usual, gather all of your ingredients and measure them out.
  • In a safe bowl, melt the butter.
  • Slowly add in the sugar and vanilla. Stir well.
  • Mix in the flours and baking soda. Stir well and be sure everything is combined.
  • In a 8x8 pan that is lined by parchment paper, press in 1/2 of the oat mixture.
  • Bake for 9-10 minutes at 350 degrees.
  • Take out of the oven and top with chocolate chips and then pour on the caramel sauce over top.
  • Crumble (not packed on, like the first layer) the remaining oat mixture.
  • Return the pan to the oven for 14-17 minutes.
  • Let them cool a bit, then cut and eat!
