Travel: Icelandic Phallological Museum

Icelandic Phallological Museum

The Icelandic Phallological Museum is one of the top things to do in Reykjavik – it might be odd for you, yet it’s scientific and quite interesting if you’re open minded. It’s about 40$ Canadian to visit and we spent about 75-90 minutes here. It’s downtown and right around the corner from the Harpa Concert Hall.

Okay – let’s check out some photos!

Ah, one quick thing to note, they do have a cafe and although we didn’t get anything here, we heard it was a great place for a snack. Think penis shaped waffled or brownies. Okay, photo time.

If you’re unsure where to find the entrance, know it’s hard to miss with these nordic rocks, don’t you think?

Also, we read up on the founder before we started our journey through the museum. Super neat.

Here we go! Human molds, animal specimens, and art (think media, print, and sculptures).

The art below was in the second room and I was drawn to it right away – all the colours, the repeating shape, and I’ll admit I forgot for a second that it was, well, a penis painting. There are some pieces that we saw and it took a moment to register or click.

Below is a famous cast or mold artist who captured quite a lot of famous people’s penises.

Well, there you have it, the Icelandic Phallological Museum, which is a great place to spend an hour or so in the morning before heading out to grab some lunch.

For us, one of the special things about travelling is being open to new experiences and this museum is one of a kind. If you’re in the area, be sure to check it out. It’s fun, full of interesting facts, and provides quite a unique experience all around. When we were hiking (more on that later) quite a few people had already been and shared how they had an awesome time.
