Travel: Muse Soumaya
Museo Soumaya is a must see in Mexico City. This place is huge, free, and one museum you won’t want to miss. We spent about 2 hours here and I could have easily spent about 3-4, yet I’d need a lot of snacks.
If you’ve never heard of the Museo Soumaya I’m sure you’ve seen the building, right? Those hexagons are iconic! The building is huge and there are 7 levels, including the entrance – it’s a deceptive building.
Okay, let’s check out some photos!
Museo Soumaya
Just after the entrance you’ll find a coat or bag check, the washrooms, and a place to have a snack. Up one level, so level one, you’ll find some old pieces, primarily of gold and sliver, and even some bank notes.
Level two is full of some historical furniture pieces – check out this miniature house!
Up the next couple of levels are pieces of art, like Old Masters from Europe and Impressionism. I could have spent the added time here, I’m a huge fan of Impressionism.
The temporary exhibit on level five was my least favourite, but level six, wowzers! The ceiling alone is stunning. The statues are beautiful, too – but the light that pours in is difficult to capture in a photo.
My favourite piece of the day? The Degas!
If you do visit the Museo Soumaya, be sure to make your way to level six – it’s worth the walk!
Okay, now for a few fun pictures we took while outside and when we were over at Museo Jumex.
Well, there you go – don’t you just love museums? Bryce and I love them in different ways – from the frames on art, to the paintings themselves, we’re enthralled by the craftsmanship and the beauty.
Happy travelling and enjoy checking out your next museum! See you again soon.
