Travel: Blue Lagoon

Blue Lagoon

Blue Lagoon in Iceland (it’s not in Reykjavik, yet it’s close – about an hour away) is a must see if you’re a bucket list type of person. For us, it was more about enjoying the day catching up and relaxing. Bryce was away from home for about 2 weeks and we met in Iceland for our off the continent vacation this year. The Blue Lagoon was our first stop – time to catch-up, relax, and simply be.

While Iceland has many spas or natural springs, the Blue Lagoon goes above and beyond as far as service and atmosphere. Plus, we ate a Moss – more on that in our next post!

Okay, time to check out the lagoon.

With the lagoon being about an hour outside of Reykjavik we took the bus. I booked directly when we ordered out tickets online. It’s quick, easy, and comfortable.

First, my suggestion is to book online in advance. There are many time slots that sell out and it wouldn’t be much fun to show up and have to wait a long time to enter.

Second, the time we booked was shortly after lunch and while it was ‘sold out’ on the Saturday we visited. It wasn’t overly busy, so the lagoon staff do an excellent job with capacity to ensure everyone has a good time.

Third, there are a few places to eat – a casual snack bar, one inside the lagoon and one outside, and two restaurants on site. Most people spend 3-4 hours at the lagoon, with our dinner, we were on site for about 9 hours. Wild, I know! But dinner was 3 hours and it took us about an hour to get ready for dinner. So, we spent about 5 hours in and out of the lagoon, with a snack break in the middle.

Lastly, be careful which suit you bring as the silica stuck to mine. I had an all black and while I knew it might happen, it’s still disappointing. Oh, and don’t get your hair wet – prep it with conditioner beforehand and you’ll be good to go.

The lagoon has a few saunas, some steam rooms, and a few spots where there are cold showers. Also, they have a few water fills, so bring a water bottle! We didn’t get masks, even though they were included, we’re both too protective of the skin on our faces, I suppose. We really enjoyed the quiet area, although some people still had their phones.

Also, be sure to check out the shop before you leave! Overall, it was an awesome day – I’m so happy we got to experience the Blue Lagoon.

Thanks for stopping by and happy travelling.
