Travel: Cairns Snapshot
Cairns snapshot – what a beautiful city serving as the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef! We landed in Cairns (via Vancouver and Brisbane) on Sunday and spent three peaceful nights, and four days exploring. Let’s check out a few highlights!!
Cairns Snapshot
First up, we got settled in our apartment, fully equipped with a stove, oven, and all the necessary kitchen tools. We had some delicious meals out in the city, yet some simple breakfasts at home – plus, snacks!
On our first full day in Cairns (don’t pronounce the ‘r’ – the locals say it like Cains) we headed out via Passions and did some snorkelling at two different spots on the Great Barrier Reef. The catamaran was quite stable in the water and they served morning and afternoon tea, as well as a big buffet lunch. About 4 salads and two hot dishes. It was very much appreciated between snorkelling – it’s surprisingly a lot of work to snorkel! Here’s a peek at our GBR experience.
We also visited the aquarium and visited the Dundee Rainforest, enjoying an afternoon hike in the jungle. One of the cool things is that we learned a lot during some of the aquarium talks and then saw the lessons or teachings in action. It was quite neat – like the docile fish that are nocturnal! Who knew?! Okay, here are a couple of photos from the aquarium and the rainforest.
Well, there you have it – a Cairns snapshot. A few highlights from our trip so far. Australia is one massive and gorgeous country! Up next we’re headed to Mission Beach to hike and relax, then onto Townsville to paddleboard and hike a bit more!
Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out this post. I hope you’re having an awesome weekend – see you again soon!
