Travel: Fraser Island Snapshot
Fraser Island snapshot – known as K’gari, it’s a world heritage site and has spectacular views. We picked up our 4×4 from Fraser Dingo and toured the island by on our own with an individualized itinerary, leaving plenty of time to explore.
If you rent a 4×4 you’ll get a safety briefing going over all the tips and tricks for driving safely in the sand. We were a bit nervous at first, yet it’s just like driving on fresh snow! The similarities were wild. If you can drive in the snow, you’ll be good!
We had Ringo, one of their pink SUVs – a lot of trucks on the island are individually owned. Some of the newer ones go quite slow on the inland roads and others seem like experts and are driving twice as fast as the inland speed limit, which is 30 km. Going 60 over massive bumps doesn’t very comfortable, it was a little rough at 30!

Okay, let’s check out some photos! We caught the barge at 10am and got onto the beach around 12pm. Then, we spent the afternoon driving the beach, hiking inland to swim, and watched the storm roll in.
Four the night, we stayed at Central Station and got our tent up just before it rained. We had tacos for dinner and watched a movie we’d downloaded since it gets dark around 6:30pm. One night was perfect, it gave us enough time to explore, yet balanced with a full experience.
Overall, it’s worth the trip to Fraser Island if you’re in the area. It’s rustic, beautiful, and very peaceful. Plus, the freshwater lakes are stunning.
Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out the Fraser Island snapshot – it reminded us a bit of UTVing just outside of Calgary.
See you again soon!

Hi guys what a fun time. I now feel like I’ve been to parts of Australia. Love the sandy beaches and views from the island. You cannot lose the fuschia suv. Kinda stands out. Have a safe trip home. Love you both. Take care
