Travel: Hallgrimskirkja Church
The Hallgrimskirkja Church offers a stunning view of Reykjavik on all four sides, plus, the church bells are worth visiting for, too! As a traveller, one of my favourite things is to get up high and see the city. After we ate at Moss and spend the afternoon at the Blue Lagoon, the church was next on our list. We visited on a Sunday and didn’t have to wait long at all. Okay, photo time!
Hallgrimskirkja Church
First up, head inside and buy your tickets – the lift tickets are sold in the gift shop which is to the left when you enter. We didn’t have to wait for the lift, but some did as it only takes 6 people at a time. The church is old!
Once you’re up the tower, enjoy the view – it was especially windy the day we visited and we were lucky to arrive just before the hour, so the bells were in full mode about 5 minutes into our visit. The tower isn’t too high, but comparatively speaking, it’s high – over 20 stories!
Once you’re back on the main floor, don’t forget to check out the actual church. I was in awe of the ceiling and Bryce caught me staring!
Overall, worth checking out. We spent about 25 minutes here, which includes the lift ride, checking out the plaques, and also the church visit. Plus, it’s right near Rainbow Street, so it’s not too far from a lot of other sites.
The wind was so wild on this day, which made for too much fun! Okay, I’m not sure too much fun is possible, yet you get the idea.
Isn’t the front face of this church stunning?! It’s so neat. I have no doubt if you’re walking around Reykjavik you’ll pass by the Hallgrimskirkja Church. We passed it at least 4 other times during our stay. Check it out if you’re in the area, the view doesn’t disappoint!
See you again soon and happy travelling!
