Travel: Museum of Islamic Art
The Museum of Islamic Art is in Doha, Qatar right outside of Old Town and overlooks the bay across to downtown. The building is an art piece in and of itself; however, the exhibits inside are well worth checking out. When we visited there was a special attraction focused on Moroccan Islamic Art. So cool. Okay, let’s check out some photos.
First up, the walkway up to the building. The walking path, the road, and the trees create such a grand entrance. I mean, you can’t even see the building at the end of the trees. It was a hot day, yet worth walking up on foot.

Up next, the building. Soft colours to reflect the sun balanced with the harsh angles. It looks so regal!
First up, the Moroccan exhibit. I love how the blue and orange pop. I had no idea it was such an iconic combination in Morocco. Okay, let’s check it out.
Below I love the play on traditional versus modern, it’s all about honouring the past and not being afraid of the future.
After the first exhibit we ventured out into the entryway. The main centre corridor connecting the three floors. It’s so magnificent, so big, so bright!
To the right of the photo, where all the light is coming from, is a cafe. It’s the perfect little spot to have a snack and look out over the bay and see the downtown skyline.
Up next we saw some historical pieces from Islamic culture.
The 18 (I know – so many!!) galleries are organized by historical cultures and themes, as well as periods and geography. When you visit, you can check them out in any order you like; so don’t stress if one area is busier than another.
My favourite gallery was the one with all the clothing from the 19th and 20th century. Check out this piece, it’s blue and orange!
After we visited all the galleries, which took us about 2.5 hours, we headed outside to check out the view.
It’s hot out and the joke is on us.
Well, there you have it – the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar. If you’re visiting, check out their website and plan your visit.
Thanks for stopping by – happy art viewing!
