Travel: Reykjavik Art Museum Hafnarhus
Reykjavik Art Museum Hafnarhus is a gallery full of modern painting, mixed-medium art, and abstract sculptures. Some of the pieces evoke childlike wonder while others are confusing and difficult to understand. All in all, that’s art, through, right?! I think so!
Okay, let’s check out this art museum.
Reykjavik Art Museum Hafnarhus
First up, the entrance – look at this place! It’s a gallery, for sure!
The first peek we have inside the Hafnarhus reminds me of a prison we visited in Phnom Penh, Cambodia – the genocide museum. The room, all white, seems void of personality or life.
It was an eerie feeling, that’s for sure.
After this first look we visited the first gallery and saw these snow clouds – so neat! Oh, and this sculpture on the floor. Someone had kicked over a piece.
Up next, a mix-medium piece that we found odd. I think the strangest part was the disjointed nature of the music playing in the room and the number of minuscule photos. I somehow felt like I was invading someone’s privacy.
Lastly, we checked out the third gallery full of modern art – I love the bright colours!
The parts that’s fun in the pieces below is that tie in other various memorable or popular art, and it plays with your mind a bit, which is fun. The had a few sculptures, too.
What I like about the piece above is the movement the piece has – the curves add some depth. Also, do you see the concrete ceiling?! Wild.
Fun, eh?!
Well, there you have it – the Reykjavik Art Museum Hafnarhus. It’s downtown, right around the corner from the Harpa Concert Hall and the Icelandic Phallological Museum.
Thanks for stopping by and we hope you check out a museum when you’re off travelling – it’s an awesome way to get an inside look into the culture of the area.
See you again soon!
