Travel: Reykjavik Art Museum Kjarvalsstaðir
The Reykjavik Art Museum Kjarvalsstaðir has some stunning pieces. We walked here from their other Hafnarhus location and it took about 35 minutes. The day we visited it was a little cool and rainy, yet with quality jackets, we were a-okay to walk! The art museum’s building is worth checking out for it’s spacious nature and light filled cafe.
It’s built like an H, with the middle section moved up a bit. The whole inside of the building is flooded with windows to bring in all the natural light to the corridors and the cafe. The galleries, however, don’t have much natural light to ensure the painting are safeguarded and kept in good condition.
Okay, let’s check out the space!

See all the windows?! So wild.
Okay, time for the art – this first piece is a favourite of mine. I think it’s pretty clear I like a lot of colour when it comes to art!
Well, there you have a quick sample of the paintings we saw. The Reykjavik Art Museum Kjarvalsstaðir isn’t very big, it has two galleries and each might take about 25-35 minutes to check out. We spent a little over an hour here, yet we also sat in the corridor and people watched for a bit before making our way back to the hotel.
Oh, don’t forget the cafe!
All the pants and the natural light feel so good, don’t you think? Ah, we love plants. The space here most certainly lends itself to these big leaf plants – we have the light, yet I’m not sure I’m a fan of these big leaf plants in our home. They’re very cool, though. It’s refreshing and bright. Overall, it’s a delightful art museum and we recommend visiting if you have time.
Thanks for stopping by and happy travelling!
See you again soon.
