Travel: Reykjavik Museum of Photography
Reykjavik Museum of Photography is a fun place to visit. Not only do you get to tour the history of Iceland through photos, you also get to see some amazing photographer skills in action! The museum is right across the street from the Hafnarhus Art Museum. The Photography museum is worth checking out if you’re in the area.
Okay, photo time!
Reykjavik Museum of Photography
First, be sure to follow the chronological order of the museum, it tells an interesting story of Iceland throughout the decades. Second, it’s worth reading the little placards.
The photos are bright (even the ones in black and white), punchy, and are full of life. They tell a deep story in the blink of an eye. There are kids jumping into snow banks, people shopping at the Bónus, and even some of famous tourists eating hot dogs!
The one of the grocery store below is wild. I mean, post pandemic it’s hard to imagine the store looking like this, but I remember it when I was younger. Saturday mornings and the store was packed. Long lines and fast baggers! I’m not sure about you, but I was fascinated watching how the bagger would strategically pick out item to stack in the right order. It’s neat how photographs can bring back memories. It’s powerful, actually.
The first thing I noticed in the photo below was the Bónus grocery bag! I have a small place in my affection for this store, probably because I’m a No Frills shopper and there’s something fun about yellow bags and discount grocery stores! Love it.
If you like photos, then this place is for you! We spent about 60 minutes here and even checked out the local library that occupies the first few floors of the building. It’s not a big space, yet it’s impactful. So visit!
Well, there you have it, a few photos of the Reykjavik Museum of Photography! Thanks for stopping by and happy travelling.
See you next time!
