Sandcastles 1770 Motel

Sandcastles 1770 Motel – it’s a cute little place that has an awesome beach. We stayed only two nights, so we opted for the breakfast type kitchen. We were expecting a shared barbeque at the pool, yet the pool was closed (as thus the barbeque, too) on our first night. Wait until you see how we cooked dinner!

Okay, first the hotel – check out Sandcastles 1770 Motel if you’re looking for a deal. The agents at the front desk were super helpful, and the one staff member was the one who suggested we check out the Paperbark Trail (worth it!). Photo time.

First, we had a nice room with air conditioning, a decent TV, and some breakfast amenities. Toaster, mini fridge, and a kettle. The room was okay, it was nice to have our own little patio, though. Oh, and the curtains were blackout, so that was nice. The bed was comfortable, yet we should have opted for a kitchen. The bathroom was average. One thing that was nice, was the outdoor patio set – we ate breakfast there the two mornings and it was out of the sun, total bonus!

Here is the patio and the stream that we enjoyed passing as we walked to the beach. The best beach!

Okay, now for the dinner! Have you ever seen the barbecues in parks in Australia? We saw a few but didn’t know how they worked. They’re not like a traditional grill we have here in Canada, they’re more of a flat top. They’re free, yet the one we tried first was out of propane and the second one we tried started to run out, too.

Bryce and I kept laughing since we decided to cook chicken and by the time we got the grill heated it was so dark we couldn’t tell if the chicken was cooked. We kept checking it with the flashlight on our phones – all in all, it was an Australian experience, a decent dinner, and one heck of a lot of fun.

Well, there you have it, our little stay at Sandcastles 1770 in Queensland, Australia. Thanks for stopping by and don’t forget to fully cook your chicken!

Enjoy the week – the darkest day of the year is right around the corner – 7.5 hours of day light coming up tomorrow, perhaps I’ll just sleep in, haha. Bye!
