Travel: University of Alberta Botanical Gardens

The University of Alberta Botanical Gardens are such a wonderful place to visit – and every season is a different experience! We visited at the end of fall and guess what – for about two weeks each fall they allow dogs to visit for free – cool, eh? Daphne got to explore the gardens with us – it was so much fun! Okay, let’s check out some photos. University of Alberta Botanical Gardens You’ll probably want to spend about an hour and a half –…

Siffleur Falls hike – this easy, yet wonderful hike is about 3.5 hours from our home. The trail is full of mountain views, fresh air and clear glacier running water. If you’re looking for a backcountry experience then give this hike a try! It’s about 1.5 hours north of Lake Louise, and about 2.5 hours east of Red Deer – on highway 11. The drive itself is beautiful, too! You know who loved this hike? Daphne! She’s a total mountain dog and loves jumping up…

    Travel: Miquelon Lake Hike

Miquelon Lake hike – it’s about a 9km hike if you do the full grouse loop, and you can take various paths through Chickadee, Deer Loop, as well as Ermine and Fox Loop. The best part about this provincial park is that it’s only about 20 minutes from our house! Such a perfect little location to get out and about without a long drive. We first checked out this hike on Easter and it took us about 1 hour and 45 minutes. The perfect amount…

    Travel: Elk Island Winter Hike

Elk Island winter hike. We’ve been hiking at Elk Island before and even in the winter, yet not with Daph-Daph! This little afternoon was well spent hiking the ~4 km trail called Beaver Pond. No, we didn’t see any beavers, yet we saw some open plains and enjoyed the fresh clean air. Let’s check out these photos! Elk Island Winter Hike One thing that bothers me about Elk Island, and I’d say most hiking trails is that their estimate for the hike is usually far…

    Travel: Hiking in Jasper

Hiking in Jasper – beautiful lakes, marvellous mountains, and fresh air is what hiking in the backcountry is all about. We visited Jasper a few weeks ago and followed all the travel protocols that are in place and it was a blast. So nice to get away and spend some time outside. Okay, let’s check out some photos from our hike. Hiking in Jasper We hiked the five lakes trail. The trail wasn’t quiet (we most certainly saw people), yet it wasn’t packed either. Look…

    Travel: Jasper Sky Tram

The Jasper Sky Tram was a highlight of our weekend getaway to Jasper a few weekends ago. The best part? They let Daphne on the tram! Jasper Sky Tram The hotel we stayed at (following all COVID-19 protocols) had a voucher for $50.00 off a handful of attractions in the area, one of them being the tram. That, paired with Daphne’s ticket being $5.45, we signed up for a flight around 10am on Sunday. The day was beautiful and full of so much fresh and…

    Travel: Banff Paddleboarding 2020

Banff paddleboarding 2020 – that’s right, back in July we headed to Banff and took a paddle on the Bow River. It’s bright blue and full of glacier runoff. Oh, and cold. The water is very, very cold. Where do we dock? We use the Banff Canoe Club since they welcome the public. Plus, 3 hour parking is located right across the street. Total score. Okay, let’s check out some photos. Banff Paddleboarding 2020 Check out this guy – he’s happy on the water. Big…
