Smalleys Beach Hike

Smalleys Beach Hike – this is one of my favourite hikes in Cape Hillsborough National Park, but also one of my favourites (top 3!) in Australia. Why? The changing landscape from one side of the mountain to the other. It’s like two different worlds, really. Okay, let’s check out some photos and I’ll share a few photos of some creatures we saw on our hike.

Smalleys Beach Hike

Okay, to start this is the All Trails hike we did. Yes, it has a bit of a walk on the road, yet if you counter clockwise it’ll be a nice relief from the up and down the mountain. Also, it’s closer to 11km than 9.5 – at least the way we hiked.

Photo time!

Here is the ocean side of the mountain – it’s lush, green, and full of so many trees. You can see the causeway that we walked out on while hiking Andrews Point.

Below is more of that lush green, high trees.

Once over the top, though, things changed – check out these skinny, fair and far between trees – and the low brush. So different!

It’s up at the top in the hot sun we saw two nifty creatures. A praying mantis and a lizard – I’m not sure what kind, but it’s huge!

Neat, eh! We stopped up at the top and spent some time looking around – it was a lot of fun, hot, but fun!

Okay, here are some photos of the way down.

The beach – we made it to the other side!

We stopped at the campground for a snack and a break in the shade.

After our break we walked the road back – check out the mountain we climbed – it’s bigger than I expected.

Well, there you have it – Smalleys Beach Hike – a great way to spend an afternoon if you’re in the Cape Hillsborough National Park. Pack water and save some for the road walk back.

Happy traveling and I’ll see you again soon. Bye!
