Okay, let’s get cooking!
BBQ Rotisserie Chicken
Ingredients
- Whole chicken
- Salt
Don’t mind the dark BBQ photos – with us being in Northern Alberta, it gets dark here around 5pm these days. Once summer hits, I’ll share some daylight photos, too!
First, do you know how to truss a chicken? If not, check out this video, it’s helpful and easy to follow.
Set your BBQ rotisserie to high. Then, truss you chicken and sprinkle it with salt – the amount depends on your taste, so be sure to adjust accordingly as needed. Also, for your first chicken, don’t add anything else just yet. I’d like you to see how good the chicken can be on it’s own.
Then, rack it. Spike the rotisserie rod through the neck and out the back cavity. Then, spike with the grill holders. Tighten them around the spit and load up on the BBQ rack. Don’t forget to ensure your rotisserie is rotating. Turn the temp down to medium-high.
Quick note, the gas on the grill isn’t on at this point. Let the chicken cook with the back rotisserie flame only. Oh, and put a pan (ensure it can withstand high heat – we use a cast iron one) down under the chicken to catch any drippings.
The chicken will take about an hour to cook – so give yourself time. Then, eat up and enjoy!
Be sure you wear heat protected gloves when you un-rack the chicken – you don’t want to burn yourself.
Then, cut up and eat up!
Happy barbecuing!
See you again soon.
