Travel: 5 Day Trail Prep

5 day hike prep! That’s right – we’re planning for a 5 day, 5 night hike that’ll cover a little over 80 kilometres. Last time we hike for this length of time was back in 2019 when we hiked the West Coast Trail. This time, however, we won’t be tenting. Instead, we’re staying in huts!

5 Day Trail Prep

Below I’ll share what I’ve got for clothing and also some eats. Without needing out tent or stove, we’ve got a bunch more room for eats and sweets! Haha.

First up, I’ve got two full outfits and then one camp outfit for the evenings and sleeping.

For each outfit I’ve got a base layer – leggings and a tank, with a long sleeve top to ensure I’m warm. Then, a sweater, and then topped up with rain pants, a rain coat, and outer warmth – a toque and gloves.

This next outfit has another pair of base leggings, a tank, and a long sleeve shirt. Layers are the best way to stay comfortable on a thru-hike!

Here I’ve got my hut clothes. Something comfortable and light, so it doesn’t add too much to my pack!

For food we did get two dinners of dehydrated meals, yet we wanted to take some chances with a few other things.

We’re going Mexican for two dinners – golden quesadillas! That’s right, instant mashed potatoes with Parmesan cheese, beans, and guacamole sauce! It’ll be fun to try out on the grill. We’re not about to carry frozen proteins, so we settled for a hard cheese.

Up next, a few lunch items! Bars and nuts.

plus, peanut butter for pancakes and oatmeal. Oh, and fruit purée for toppings!

All in all, that’s how we prepped our food for the trip!

Any insights you have to share about thru-hiking?!

Thanks for stopping by and happy hiking!
