Bahrain Eats

First up, though, where we ate.

Okay, let’s check out some photos. First up we have Fusions by Tala – it’s on the Worlds Best 50 Restaurants for the MENA – Middle East and North Africa. The thing that’s awesome about Fusions is it’s modern Bahraini food. We love travelling to get a sense of the culture, which includes eating authentic food and Fusions did not disappoint. Our hotel was close to Fusions, so we walked across the major thoroughfare and had a wonderful dinner – there’s something special about walking through a city, it’s an experience in and of itself.

Fusions was a definite highlight of our trip. Up next, a few general places – a local grocery store which was right around the corner from our hotel. A go-to Mexi-cali place and Joe and the Juice. I’d never heard of Joe and the Juice, but it’s big in Europe. The first one I saw was on this trip through the Amsterdam airport – it’s neat! Okay, the grocery store.

We’re snack people, if you didn’t know this already – the grocery store in Manama, Bahrain was packed full of goodness. They even had a lot more gluten free foods than some of our stores back in Canada.

On our trip to the market we picked up fruit, chips, pop, gluten free cookies, and a few other snacks to keep us happy during our travel downtime.

We had lunch at Joe and the Juice the day we visited the Al Fateh Grand Mosque and the Bahrain National Museum. It’s in the major mall downtown, so easy to get to and well worth the air conditioning time.

Bryce got the peanut butter and banana oat bowl and I got the green tuna bowl. Both were fresh, tasty, and exactly what we were in the mood for. They’re restaurant is full of energy and has a lot of personality.

Up next, we had Mexican one night at Calexico – it was okay, not the best, but average.

Swagat

Lastly, our most favourite place on our whole trip to Bahrain – Swagat. This place is a small little Indian restaurant in the Manama Souq. Note that it’s cash only, yet so worth it. Also, it’s super reasonably priced – like 4-10$ Canadian per person. And, it’s a family run place. English isn’t well spoken, yet any world traveller will manage a-okay.

We ordered a lot of food and it came to about $22 Canadian – I wish I could have eaten more. In all honesty, I wish we stayed an extra few hours in Manama, Bahrain so I could visit this place again. If we ever in the area (like a quick 1-2 hour flight away) I might consider stopping in Bahrain just for this place, it was that good. Okay – photos!
