Travel: Cape Hillsborough Snapshot
Cape Hillsborough snapshot – such a beautiful national park in a remote part of Queensland. If you’re looking to disconnect, hike, and enjoy some downtime, then visit Cape Hills.
We stayed in the campground, in one of their terrace huts. Nothing glamorous, since it’s a campground, yet it had everything we needed for a few great days of hiking!

With three trails leaving right from the campground, we had two days where we didn’t even drive our car! Nope, just suited up, packed a few litres of water, and hit the trail right away. That’s one of the best parts of staying right in the park. Plus, the campground has a pool, which we most certainly made use of. It cooled us down – especially on the one occasion when we used the pool while it was raining. So fun. Here are some photos.
A super neat aspect of hiking close to the ocean is the diversity in the location. Some of the bluffs we hiked were so lush and green on one side, yet arid with low ground plants on the other. Plus, the variety in lizards was amazing. Watch out for spiders – I think we’ve run into what feels like hundreds of webs, and I’ve jumped more than a few times. Hiking poles come in handy and we’re so happy we brought them!
Okay – here are a couple of photos of some wildlife. We saw about four different types of lizards, brush turkeys, and some wild insects (like a praying mantis!). Some things I don’t have photos of (like snakes) since I find it safer to just move along than stop and try to get a decent photo. A bit of a balance, haha.
Oh, and the kangaroos – there’s a small handful that enjoy being in the campground, the ranger even feeds them snacks at sunrise on the beach. I think they’re spoiled.
Well, there you have it – a little Cape Hillsborough snapshot. Hopefully you’re enjoying your weekend, too.
Thanks for stopping by – see you again soon!

There does not appear to be trees filled with lavish large leaves. However being near the water does make for a beautiful picture. I’m sure the hike was enjoyable and and you did walk all trails available. Having a pool sure is handy not only to cool down but to take some of the “hiking pain” away. We love you both and hope you keep well on your Australian journey. Dad
