Travel: Chapultepec Zoo
The Chapultepec Zoo! It’s in the heart of Mexico City and it’s free. The zoo has many North American animals, and a whole section with bison, bears, and deer. So odd to see when our National Parks here in Canada host those animals with thousands of acres of land.
Compared to the two other zoos we visited in 2022 – the Omaha Zoo and the Australia Zoo (post coming sometime this year!), the Mexico City Zoo was lacklustre for sure. Don’t get me wrong, the Chapultepec Zoo is worth visiting – bring your walking shoes and enjoy a visit early in the morning when it’s cooler. You’ll see more animals this way!

Okay, time for some photos!
It took us about 75 minutes to walk through the zoo seeing the different areas and exploring a bit. They had a panda display that was empty, yet some ambassadors from China had the red carpet rolled out for them. We couldn’t take any photos, yet it seemed super important! Kind of neat to see.
My favourite, though, was these two zebras that seemed to line up just right!
Also, this guy just hanging out keeping watch! So cool.
We saw wolves, a lynx, and some large antelope.
The cat seemed to quite enjoy the melon she was eating. It pounced on it and was in devouring mode. Breakfast time is a benefit if checking out the zoo in the morning!
My favourite, the giraffes, although we couldn’t get that close – they didn’t have a Giraffe Habitat!
Oh, one tip – you can’t brining any food or drinks in with you and you’ll exit the zoo in a different (not too far) location than were you enter. We got turned around for about 1/2 a block before I realized we were in the wrong spot. Pre-paid SIM cards to the rescue! I’m so impressed with International data plans – yet that’s a whole other conversation.
Well, there you have it – some photos of our visit to Mexico City’s Chapultepec Zoo. Check it out if you’re in the area.
Thanks for stopping by – see you again soon.
