Travel: Coral Creek Canyon

Coral Creek Canyon is a figure eight, loop-like hike in Nordegg, Alberta. It’s about a 6.5 kilometer hike and took us about an hour and 45 minutes. We did this hike around 11am and it was a gorgeous day. The sun was out, the air was cool, and the sky was mostly clear. Daphne had an awesome time and we stuck to the inside loop on the way in, finishing with the canyon trail on the end, which was perfect – saving the best view for last!

Coral Creek Canyon

First up, if you’re looking for a longer hike, you can most certainly extend this one – there are a few options, which is perfect. We had already done Whitegoat Falls in the morning, so we stuck to the trail on this one and didn’t extend – we were hungry!

The parking lot is easily findable and the trailhead is well marked. Washrooms and signage, as well as easy highway access make this trail a little more popular than others. Be sure you know the route and have either a photo of the map or have it downloaded.

At the first fork, we went left, yet didn’t stay left to head back to the creek. So, we did a bit of a figure eight. We typically don’t dart too far off the path, yet there was a group of 6 in front of us and they had a dog – they were enjoying their slower pace, so we decided to adapt.

The walk back along the canyon is super neat.
