Fraser Dingo

Fraser Dingo! 4WD is an awesome way to spend a few days on Fraser Island. In true Ali and Bryce fashion, we wanted to do things on our own so we found a place that rented four wheel drive SUVs and set out to camp on K’gari, formally known as Fraser Island, a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It’s worth it, so check out our ride below.

First up, where to find all the info – visit the links below for more info.

Okay, we researched a few companies and landed on Fraser Dingo for two reasons. One, great reviews and two, their sustainability initiatives. We’ll admit some AC would have been nice, but it’s camping and we had fun with the windows down.

The multi day is the option we took, leaving early on a Friday and returning as late as possible on the Saturday. Since we travelled from Canada, there wasn’t any way we were going to lug a cooler or a tent around for one night, so we got the camping package, too. The camping package is a little costly (I think we paid 50$ per person for the sleeping bag and full kit), considering it was for one night. Yet, worth it!

Okay, the rig, the ride, the car…yes, it’s just a car. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but our truck is, heck our Honda Element was bigger! All that to say, it’s nothing to be scared of, you can most certainly drive on sand if you drive on snow.

Well, that’s Ringo! We picked pink over blue since it’s a fun bright colour. We got onto the island via the smaller port and this is where these photos were taken, right before we got on the ferry.

Before you make your way to the dock, though, you’ll have a bit of paperwork to do.

Fraser Dingo is fantastic in that they give you all the safety info and map out an itinerary for you with some options. It’s sort of like choose your own adventure.

Okay – here’s what the place looks like and you’ll spend about 90 minutes in their main room.

We took pictures so we were sure to load everything back up the same way we received it.

Then, time to load up.

With our multi day booking, our permits, and the camping gear, the total came to just over 800$ Canadian. Well worth it to drive ourselves, have an adventure, and enjoy the beauty that is K’gari.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoy your week!
