Travel: House of Collections

House of Collections

The House of Collections is such a sweet and interesting gallery. If you’re in the downtown area of Reykjavik, then be sure to check it out. It was free with our admissions to the National Gallery of Iceland.

One thing to note is that the facility has a lot of stairs – it’s not very accessible, so something to factor in for some folks. We followed the recommendation to start at the top and work our way down. I’ll admit, it was hard to walk up and see the rooms without taking time to peak and explore. Having said that, it built anticipation and heightened the experience.

The building is full of what feels like little niche rooms – it’s quaint! Okay, let’s explore.

On the top floor they had an exhibit about weather, clouds, and the sky. Then we saw some local art, photographs, and some interactive pieces backed by the history of Iceland.

The game above was fun – you can race a fellow competitor and the goal is to not light up the bulbs. You do this by navigating the ring over the mountain range without touching the ring to the medal.

It reminded me of a few of our other visits, such as the Tropical Museum in Queensland – I didn’t do so well at that game! Bryce one this one in Iceland, though.

Okay, here are two of my favourite pieces from the House of Collections. These statues are super neat and for some reason or another, I love how bright this painting is – it’s full of life.

We spent about an hour here and it’s in such a great location. Before or after your visit, grab a coffee and have a little rest in the park – if the weather is nice, that is – and people watch.

It’s so enjoyable to be on vacation, taking your time, seeing sights, and enjoying the true pace of life. I love it!

Happy travelling – see you again soon.
