Museum of Tropical Queensland

Museum of Tropical Queensland is a highlight in Townsville. Bryce and I love the science area of museums and this one doesn’t disappoint! Plus, we heard the story of the great ship shown above. Worth checking out the exhibits if you’re looking to cool down for an afternoon.

The price for the museum is quite reasonable at $15.00 a person, however their hours are only until 4pm each day. As such, be sure to plan out when you might want to visit.

Overall, we spent about 2 hours at the museum, however, much of that was spent in the science area. From 3D tic-tac-toe to the wand game, we had a lot of fun. Some of our best memories are from science centres, like the one we visited in Hong Kong, or the one in Vancouver. Oddly, though, we haven’t visited the Telus World of Science here in Edmonton – we should check that out!

However, it wasn’t all fun and games. I got stuck on the wand game and Bryce found it funny. Watch the video below to see what I mean.

Ridiculous – I couldn’t get that game if I had all day.

The museum is full of a lot of other gems, such as the Great Barrier Reef exhibit and another one on the Billabong.

The main room, though, is always the same and shares the story of the Pandora.

The museum is worth visiting just for all the history about the HMS Pandora. Deep dives, the shipping prep (they took so much butter for their trip!), and number of people who got sick on board was shocking.

All in all, we had a great time. One thing is for sure, we’ll continue to check out museums, especially when they have an interactive science centre. Loved it!

Mega thanks for visiting – see you again soon, and until then, safe travels!
