Travel: Kyoto Botanical Gardens
The Kyoto Botanical Gardens are a stunning place to visit – enjoy nature, enjoy tranquility, and enjoy people watching. We visited on the weekend (either a Saturday or a Sunday) and there were so many activities happening. From face painting to bonsai tree pruning lessons, to first responder dress-up stations for children. It’s a peaceful place to visit. Let’s check out some photos.
Kyoto Botanical Gardens
First, getting there via the train is quite easy. The train station pops up right at the entrance, so no need to worry about missing the gate. One tip, be sure you fill up your water, since there aren’t many spots throughout the garden to hydrate.
We visited the Ume Garden first – and all in all our visit was about 2 hours.
We visited in November and I was so thrilled to see all the leaves changing colours. Where we live, in Northern Alberta, the variety of trees isn’t like we’re used to in Northern Ontario, so the colours are a bit one note. In Japan, however, they’ve got a lot of variety and those reds!
Here we visited the bonsai section – look at the red on these trees.
Finding shade on the hot day we had wasn’t always easy, yet when we did find it, we sat back and enjoyed the view.
A few special exhibits were open and this one with chrysanthemums was so fun – all the big pops of colour. These flowers reminded me of hydrangeas, but I’m not a flower person, so I have no idea if they’re part of the same family or anything. All I know is that they’re beautiful and fluffy!
We had an awesome time at the Kyoto Botanical Gardens. Oh, another tip – you can bring your own snacks, yet they also have coffee and treat carts if you’re looking for a treat. Thanks for stopping by – have a happy week!
