Travel: Paddleboarding in Townsville
Paddleboarding in Townsville, Queensland, Australia! Have you ever been stand up paddleboarding? We have and love it. However, we have never been paddleboarding in the ocean. It was fun, although the water was a little choppy. Overall, I’ll admit, it’s not something we’d do again.
Some of our favourite paddleboarding is in calm, shallow waters, not becaues we’re afraid of the water, but because we love to explore and see what’s happening below. Our favourite paddle experience was back in 2017 in Christina Creek, but some close seconds are in Banff on the Bow River and also on Two Jack Lake. Okay, back to paddleboarding in Townsville and where to get boards. We got our boards from the Sailing Club since easy to book online and then just help yourself.
They only had two paddles, so be sure you let them know if the equipment isn’t out. We made the short walk down to the beach and took off for about 60 minutes of paddling.
See Castle Hill in the background, doesn’t it looks so high from the water. I couldn’t believe we hiked that high.
With the wind, we ended up far down the beach and after getting to shore, guess what we saw?!
This sign…
Talk about yikes! Luckily we didn’t get stung because although they do have aid kits along the beach, I’m sure it’s super painful.
After our board ride we walked the pier and enjoyed people watching. The strand is a great place to spend a few hours, grab a snack, sit and enjoy the downtime, and just relax. Or, you could fish like some of the others on the pier!
Well, there you have it – paddleboarding in Townsville. Where is your favourite place to paddleboard? We’re headed to Jasper soon since we love paddling, we hope to get some in as long as the weather is nice.
Overall, happy paddleboarding and I’ll see you again soon.
