Travel: Souq Waqif

Souq Waqif

The Souq Waqif is the best open market in Doha, Qatar. It’s in Old Town and has so many shops, restaurants, and vendors. Plus, the people watching is fantastic! Okay, let’s check out some photos of the souq. Oh, and a few more camels.

Souq Waqif

First up, we ventured over from the Amiri Diwan after watching the camel parade. Have you ever seen such a thing?! It’s super neat and if you get the chance, check it out. Okay, back to the souq. On our walk over we saw a few other camels being tended to. They were snacking on trees and enjoying life.

When w got to the souq things were opening up for the evening, so a lot of restaurants were starting to pick up. We ventured into a few different areas, one full of birds and another full of cushions. The souq had any type of souvenir you could want and a handful of vendors were selling some ornament dishes, too.

There was also a section with a lot of art, another area with blankets, and a lot of woodworking pieces, too.

The craftsmanship on many of the items was quite well done, however, the one tricky thing when travelling is how to get it home, back to Canada. We didn’t see anything we needed to have, yet we’ve been on the lookout for a while for a sculpture for our second floor loft. We’ll find it one day, I’m sure!

Well, there you have it, the Souq Waqif – a standing market in the heart of Doha, Qatar.

You know the drill – check it out if you’re in the area. Grab a snack, sit on a patio, and people watch until the sun goes down. It’s a great way to spend an hour or two.

Happy travelling! See you again soon.
