Travel: Togetsu-kyo Bridge
The Togetsu-kyo Bridge is a beautiful space just outside of Kyoto – it’s a neighbourhood that has quite a few tourist sights, so be sure to check it out. It’s lovely to see the countryside in Japan and this area is stunning. The first bridge was built in 836 and the one that currently stands is almost 100 years old.

After visiting the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove we took a detour through the park and made our way to the town centre were the bridge is – we stopped along the river and got some cold drinks. There’s this lemon drink called C.C. Lemon that’s so good – it’s like if you took the best parts of sprite and mixed it with lemonade. A can has as much vitamin c as 50 lemons.
The riverside is active with boats, kids playing on the shore, and even some driving remote controlled watercraft. The one device had a little man in it that waved, it was pretty cute.
Now for the bridge – it’s super neat.
Having grownup in Sault Ste. Marie, I’m familiar with hydro-power, locks, and the fishing that comes with elevation changes and water. The micro-hydro-power here is quite cool.
You get some great photos while walking across the bridge; however, some of the best photos of bridge itself are from the riverwalk up stream. If you don’t venture down one of the sides, you’ll miss the view of the wooden features.
We saw a few fish jumping here – the water is active, that’s for sure!
Well, there you have it, the Togetsu-kyo Bridge. Worth the short walk from the bamboo grove. Plus, it’s a good spot to get a snack, grab a coffee (the lines are long!), or grab a cc lemon. Trust me, they’re good!
Thanks for stopping by – see you again soon.
