Tutorial: Mens dress shirt to Trendy Tunic
The last post turned an old dress shirt into a vest! This one turns it into a trendy tunic. Love wearing leggings? This is for you!!
Okay – here we go – mens dress shirt to trendy tunic.
What You Need
- old dress shirt
- matching thread
- pins
- scissors
- machine
This is my pale pink dress shirt – it’s big and bulky – especially the neck. Great colour, though. This tutorial would work really well with a plaid dress shirt for fall, or even a deep purple for winter. I have a great pair of black boots that would go well with a rich pinstriped grey and black dress shirt.
Oh, the possibilities, eh!
First – cut off the bottom part of the sleeve – about 1/2 way up. Oh, and I would suggest ironing your shirt first. You can see I failed at that.
Next – cut off the collar. See the seam right under the top button hole? Cut along that seam.
Now, pin under all raw edges and top stitch.
If you’r dress shirt is too big, like mine was, put darts in the back – works wonders.
And…you’re done!
The best part is that the collar doesn’t interfere with scarf wearing! You know I love a scarf or two!
Style it up or wear it plain – either way, it’s a great addition to your closet. This mens dress shirt to trendy tunic is sure to add style to your wardrobe.
Thanks so much for stopping by – I hope you’re able to sew up and up-cycle some old clothing. Sew up, have fun, and enjoy the day.
