Recipe: Jalapeño Hamburger Hot Dogs
Jalapeño hamburger hot dogs! What? Yes. Why? Well, a few weeks ago I felt like hot dogs. So weird since that rarely happens. Now, I don’t eat red meat or pork, so I was on the hunt for Butterball turkey (and gluten free!) hot dogs. Do you think I had any luck? No. None.
So, I grabbed some Butterball turkey bacon and some ground turkey and though, I can do this!
Let’s get cooking.
Ingredients
- 1 pound of ground turkey
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup of panko (gluten free!)
- 1 jalapeño
- 100g of shredded cheddar cheese
- salt and pepper to taste
- 10 strips of bacon
First, fire up the grill and get it nice and hot. Then, mix the first 3 ingredients together well. Chop the jalapeño and add in the cheddar cheese.
Stir and add salt and pepper.
Then, roll into about 1 inch thick hot dogs. Wrap each one with 2 strips of bacon and put on the grill. I used tooth picks to hold the bacon in place.
You’ll want to keep an eye on them, especially if you’re using turkey bacon since it doesn’t have much fat.
Cook for about 3 minutes per side, turning often. You’ll want them to be cooked through, so about 165 F internally.
When they’re done, get out the hot dog buns (gluten free, of course) and get ready to eat these up!
I made them really thick and we cut them in half – if you end up making them too big, too, just adapt.
They are cheesy and full of a bit of heat. Such a great dinner and I’m so happy I thought of the idea right there in the meat department. What a way to think on your feet, eh?
Well, there you have it – jalapeño hamburger hot dogs. Just in time for the weekend, too!
Thanks so much for visiting and I hope to see you again soon. Bye!
