Sewing: Dog Beds
Customize dog beds – why not for the furry ones you love?
Lily loved the bed and was comfy and cozy within minutes of me putting it down on the floor.
What you need
- lots of fabric
- piping – learn piping 101
- machine
- matching thread
- zipper
I made two dog beds – one for Lily and one for Bella. The first one measured 50 inches x 40 inches x 6 inches (plus 1/2 inch SA). The second one measured 41 inches x 32 inches x 4.75 inches (plus a 1/2 inch SA). Then, I needed 2 zippers at 20 inches, and 656 inches of piping to complete the project.
First – cut out your fabric.
4 pieces for the sides: 50 long, and 6 wide for 2 and then 40 long and 6 wide for one, then 40 long and 7 wide for another (the one with the zipper). Repeat for the smaller bed adding in a bit for the zipper, too.
Install the zipper – if you need a refresher, use the custom pillow case tutorial – that zipper installation works wonders on many projects.
Install the piping and each side will start to take place – then, you’ll be done! Turn the project right side out though the zipper and iron all seams.
Stuff it with stuffing or if you’re covering an old dog bed then put on the new cover.
Done!
Plop it on the ground and let the hounds at it.
She’s so adorable.
Loves her new bed.
Thanks for stopping by – I hope your dog loves the bed you make just as much!
Happy Tuesday.
Sew up!
