    Travel: Two Weeks in Mexico

Two weeks in Mexico – well, it was actually more like 17 days, which was awesome. I’ll admit, though, it was a bit long in one place. If you venture down to Quintana Roo, Mexico for two weeks and aren’t huge beach people (like us) then rent a car and take some awesome day trips. I’ll share a few things we did while staying in Akumal (and a day trip or two). Two Weeks in Mexico Mexico in a Carry-On Hopper Experience Akumal, Mexico Tulum,…

    Travel: Xel-Ha Water Park

Xel-Ha water park is an awesome water adventure park. It’s full of so many different activities – zip-lining over water, lazy rivers, and the hugest waterslide I’ve ever seen. Not to mention the snorkeling – it’s so vast and you’ll for sure see some beautiful fish. There are a few things you’ll want to bring with you, and other items you can leave at home since they’re a part of the all inclusive service. Bring bathing suit eco sunscreen water shoes phone/camera waterproof phone case…

    Travel: La Perla

La Perla is an authentic Mexican restaurant in Playa del Carmen. Wonderful friends of ours were staying in Cancun during our time in Akumal and we decided to meet halfway in Playa for dinner. This place is on the north end of 5th street – the older end. We took the Colectivo from Akumal and it took us about 50 minutes from door to door. Bugs at La Perla Yes – you read that correctly, bugs. Bryce tacos with crickets and larva – not for…

    Travel: Cenote Ik Kil Mexico

It’s the Ik Kil Cenote in Mexico – the host of Red Bull diving a few years back. Not only is this place so much fun, it’s absolutely beautiful. Cenote Ik Kil After we visited Chichen Itza we stopped here – it was the perfect way to cool off and have some fun. This is what the cenote – meaning sink hole – looks like from above. We’re on the ground level and the water is a huge hole in the ground. It’s all natural…

    Travel: Chichen Itza

Oh my goodness, this place – Chichen Itza – is awesome. One of the 7 wonders of the world, it’s most definitely worth the visit. Chichen Itza First, get a guide and opt for the shorter version. It was 35 degrees out with minimal shade, so the 2 hour tour was more than enough. All in all we spent about 2.5-3 hours at the site. Second, learn cool stuff. These steps are narrow forcing humans to walk up sideways so as to not face the…

    Travel: Akumal, Mexico

We visited Akumal, Mexico in February for just over two weeks. Northern Alberta was freezing at the time, minus 37 on the coldest day the week before we left. So, we packed up – I packed in a carry on – and away we went. Did you see our little snapshot while we were there? If not, here are all the details! Akumal, Mexico is about 90 minutes south of Cancun and it’s a small little place. It has a handful of restaurants, a small…

    Travel: Tulum, Mexico

Tulum, Mexico is about 35-45 minutes south of Akumal – and about 2 hours south of Cancun. It’s beautiful. Bryce and I took the Colectivo and saw the ruins, had lunch, and walked around this sweet little city. Tulum, Mexico First – make sure you bring sun screen, a hat, and something to drink. Also, note that the way you enter is not the way you exit. So, just keep that in mind if you’re in a larger group. Oh, and no facilities inside the…
