Have some scraps of jersey knit fabric? You need to make headbands! These twist headbands are inspired by a Pinterest pin from Honeybee Vintage. They are quick and easy – I made 7 in 2 hours…plus, stopping to take lots of photos. They make a great little addition to any gift. Update – new tutorial – wide headbands! Check it out, too. Tutorial: Placemats

Placemats! Grab some fabric and get sewing – this tutorial is just in time for the holiday season. Placemats The standard placemat is 12×18 inches. So, start by cutting out 4 pieces of fabric that are 14×20 inches. I used a rotary cutter, since I wanted them to be crisp and clean. I find it easier to cut out a large piece of fabric (maybe 22×16), iron it, and then use the rotary cutter to cut out the exact measurements. If you iron it first,…

    Tutorial: Dishcloths

Dishcloths! Yes, something we need and somehow can never keep clean. So, it’s time for sewing! Making dishcloths is super easy. They make a good house welcoming gift, look good in the kitchen, and are fun to customize with any fabric you like. Dishcloths Mine measure 10 inches by 10 inches when finished – add about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch for the seam allowance. Also, ensure that your fabric is washed an ironed before you cut it. It’ll make for far cleaner lines and…

It wasn’t silk but it still had a sticker price of 178$. Ah, no thanks. In July I decided I would tackle the bow tie. I finally got around to it! The template I use is Martha Stewarts but I DO NOT follow her directions. For one, her directions are wasteful (I find) and the fabric has…

It’s fall – time to stay warm. The list of things I can make for myself (or for women in general) is endless…but it’s hard to find things to make for a guy. This neck cowl is perfect – as long as you keep the fabric and colours masculine. What You Need 2 pieces of fabric that measure 30 inches by 9.5 inches matching thread serger sewing machine an iron. So – the easier thing to do is not cut the fabric in half –…

Last week, or maybe the week before that, I was at ikea picking up pillows for my pillow cover project and I always swing by the fabric section. They had this awesome striped fabric for 6$. Score. A little side note about my trip at ikea. So, I’m waiting in line to get my fabric cut – and the teenage boy who finally found himself…

    Tutorial: Hooded Towels

Hooded Towels Have little ones or little ones who visit? We just finished putting together our ‘yellow room’ which is a guest room with a yellow closet (post to follow soon) and I wanted something fun for the kiddos who visit. Hooded towels!! What you need – one big bath towel, one hand towel, thread and some bias tape. I use my serger and invisible thread when stitching on the bias tape, but we’ll talk more about that below. First thing, you want to fold…
