Travel: Art Aquarium Museum

Art Aquarium Museum

The Art Aquarium Museum is a fun experience in downtown Tokyo. We checked out this exhibit before dinner and enjoyed the display of goldfish, water, and air bubbles. Oh, and let’s not forget the more decorated pieces that had flowers. Such a neat museum.

We spent about 45-60 minutes at the aquarium and it wasn’t too costly, 2500 yen, so just under 25 dollars Canadian. Check out the museum’s website for more info. Pro tip, you can find the aquarium entrance on the 9th floor of Ginza Mitsukoshi – it took us a bit of time to find the entrance.

At first, I didn’t know (or didn’t pay attention, perhaps) that it was all goldfish. It wasn’t until we took a turn out of the main entry that I figured it out. Speaking of the main entry, it’s impactful. The dark space, mirrors, and the changing lights most certainly pull you in.

After the main entry there are some one off fish in their own aquariums. They’re evenly placed, and beautifully decorated. Like a grid. Everything is done with purpose, the lighting, the air bubbles, or the gently overflowing water to make the top look like glass. Wild!

My favourite sections were those that were elaborate, full of sculpture, and had fun with the negative space and air bubbles.

Not too sure if you can see, but in the photo below the walkway is lined with birdhouse looking aquariums, each home to a fish. And, at the very end, past the two people, are the bubbliest tanks the museum has. I took a better photo in the middle set below. So many bubbles it’s hard to see the goldfish.

Isn’t that last photo stunning?! The aquariums are like the little bottles of food colouring with the triangle hats in rainbow colours. Playful, that’s for sure! Be sure to check out the Art Aquarium Museum if you’re ever in Tokyo, Japan.

Thanks for stopping by and happy travelling.
