Travel: Art Gallery of Algoma

Art Gallery of Algoma: 3ten.ca

Time for a little look into the Art Gallery of Algoma – the art gallery in my hometown. We recently visited Sault Ste. Marie to hang out with family for a week and my mom took us to the beautiful Roberta Bondar photo exhibit. I remember being in elementary school and about 4 grades of students loaded up on to two busses. The bus drivers had such a hard time trying to find a spot to park. We were there to line the streets with homemade signs welcoming Roberta Bondar back from her trip to space. So cool.

Okay, on to the photos!

This art gallery is small, with 3 separate little spaces, yet it’s still worth the visit if you’re in the north.

Here’s the main attraction!

The display is broken up into four different categories, Calming, Strength, Mystery and Future.

Calming

Roberta Bondar describes these as cherished memories and peaceful moments.

Strength

She states, “Canada has diversity of strength that can give us courage and confidence in ourselves.”

Mystery

This is one of my favourites – what a mystery in that little hive. It’s somethings whole world.

Future

Looking onward into the future, where hope and beauty live. In Roberta Bondar’s description of future she speaks a lot about protection of the natural environment. Canada is far too wonderful to lose.

Here’s the standing collection and I believe it always stays the same.

These last pieces are in a small section of the back – they are on loan from various art galleries around Canada. You can see the masking tape tag which clearly identifies it’s going to ‘Algoma’ – at least that’s what I think it is, no way it’s part of the piece, right?

So much texture – I love it.

This one looks better in the photo than it did in person. For the rest, however, you should see them in person for sure.

Thanks for visiting and I hope to see you again soon. Enjoy your Saturday!
