Travel: Doha Corniche
The Doha Corniche is a waterfront walkway and promenade that’s about seven kilometres long connecting the downtown core to old town Doha. It’s stunning, full of art, and the views are special. We walked the corniche a few times during our time in Doha, both in the evening and during the day. Here are a few highlight photos.
Doha Corniche
First up, wear comfortable shoes, you won’t want to get stuck walking in blister causing sneakers. The best time to walk, for us, anyway, is right at dusk. the sun is low and behind you, cascading light across the bay. It’s beautiful.
The beach is clean and the water looks very clear, however, no swimming. Or we didn’t see anyone swimming, that’s for sure. The bay is full of boats, so I’m not sure how safe it is to swim. All in all, it’s the same water as in Dubai where people swam, so maybe?!
Once dusk turned into night, the art started to pop! Check out these statutes.
The buildings glow at night, too. Also, notice the street lights are designed to blend into their natural environment, looking like palm tree leaves. Neat, eh?
During the day the Doha Corniche has a much different atmosphere, it’s full sun and bright as can be. Check out the boats, the water, and the views. The harbour is so full, you can even take one of thee boats from one end of the promenade to the other.
Well, there you have it, the promenade in Doha – well worth checking out and spending time walking from downtown to old town, or vice-versa. One of our most enjoyable ways to see a city is by walking. There’s something special about it, seeing locals running, families enjoying their city, and people watching in and of itself. It’s fun!
Thanks for stopping by and we’ll see you again soon.
