Travel: Dotonbori
Dotonbori – it’s a neighbourhood in Osaka that’s full of life, neon, and tourists. Basically, it’s energy with street eats and nifty shops. We spent about an hour here, people watching, grabbing a coffee and checking out some of the stores. Okay – let’s take a peek at some of the photos that captivate the liveliness of Dotonbori.
Dotonbori
First up, it’s super easy to get here on the metro – so there really isn’t a reason why you shouldn’t check it out. Historically, it’s a theatre district, yet now it’s a popular nightlife area filled with neon signs and entertainment offerings.
Do know that it’s a bit crowded – so be prepared. We stopped here at the end of our afternoon on one of our last days and it was the perfect time. We didn’t have anything particular we wanted to do, we just wanted to check out the neighbourhood and people watch.
You can see how crowded the walkways are – if you’re in a rush or on a time crunch, be sure you make time to navigate the crowds. We had a lot of time and therefore didn’t have to worry at all. Some people push their way through, which can be aggravating, yet we just stepped out of the way – no rush on our end.
The billboards and the signs reminded me of the Shibuya Crossing in Tokyo, all the large advertising and signs. It’s interesting to see, however, it’s loud and obnoxious at the same time – especially for those, like us, who live in the country and look at endless amounts of trees. Such a contrast!
Well, there you have it, a little sneak peek into the Dotonbori neighbourhood in Osaka. There’s a lot of street food, so if you’re adventurous, go hungry!
Happy travelling – see you again soon – bye!
