Travel: Elk Island Hike
Elk Island hike – the weather was sunny, a bit cloudy, and we had just enough bug spray. Plus, the bison are such a treat to see!
In June we hiked two trails, number 11 and number 12. Daphne loved both – she likes to wander, check out smells and her 30 foot leash keeps her close, yet gives her a bit of freedom, too.
Elk Island
Here we are, hiking away. Gators are necessary with how muddy it’s been – we had to hike around about 8 large, knee deep puddles.
Daph-Daph sometimes thought the best way through the puddle was to go into it, not around it. Silly goof!
Crossing bridges and log walking are some of my favourite things on hikes.
Oh, and lunch – lunch is the best! I carried full sized ketchup and mustard containers for our jalapeño hamburger hot dot lunch – so good!
Not to mention everything else I carried – extra first aid kit, Daphne’s rain coat and booties, an extra sweater – even a deck of cards in case we got stuck. Don’t worry, on the second hike I didn’t carry nearly as much. Lesson learned.
A day hike is not the West Coast Trail – although, hiking 15 km a day is tough.
Okay, back to the hiking beauty! Look at that big blue Alberta sky. I just can’t get over how big it is at times.
Look at all that open space, it’s it awesome!
The bison sure love it.
Daphne loves hiking, from the fresh Alberta air, to the new smells and animals to see, it’s a full on adventure.
Well, there you have it – a little summer time adventure. Be sure you make some time for yourself, get out of the house and enjoy the fresh clean air.
Happy hiking!
Thanks for visiting Elk Island hike – see you again soon.
