Travel: Mossman Gorge
The Mossman Gorge – it’s a part of the Daintree National Forest which is a rainforest. Okay, let’s check out some photos from out hike!
Mossman Gorge
First, we picked up our rental car after snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef and the first thing we did was head the 75 minutes north from Cairns to the rainforest. The drive is twisty and windy. So, it was an experience for our first time driving on the other side of the road – happy we made it in one piece!
You can pay to take the shuttle up or walk. They say it’s a far walk, but it’s not really. We took the shuttle since it was super hot and we were there near the end of the day, so although we weren’t tight on time, we didn’t want to waste time walking a highway.
The Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre is beautiful – it has a gift shop and a cafe for snacks after your adventures in the national park. You also get your shuttle tickets inside the centre.
Now, time to hike! Check out all the different trees, the leaves, and although I can’t share smells over the blog, you wouldn’t believe the freshness of the air – so thick and heavy – rainforest air for sure!
The sky is so blue and the water is so clean and clear. There were a few people swimming and we stuck our toes in on the way back. Refreshing for sure!
That’s us! Look how sweaty and shiny we are, haha. It’s a thick rainforest, that’s for sure. I’m super happy we had our bug spray since without it we would have been a mess.
Check out these tree roots! Wild, flat out wild.
Well, there you have it, our Australia hike at the Mossman Gorge in the Daintree Rainforest. Such an adventure and a much different landscape than Cairns, that’s for sure!
Happy travelling and I’ll see you again soon.
