Travel: Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef is a must do if you’re in Queensland, Australia! We snorkelled with Passions of Paradise out of Cairns, Queensland. Check out the photos and video below!

First, when you’re booking a tour to see the GBR (the Great Barrier Reef) be sure to do your homework! We wanted a tour where we would have some independence, would see more than one site, and a company that was eco friendly. Plus, we love that it’s locally owned and the boat wasn’t overly massive, meaning not too many people.

We visited two sites. First, we visited the Flynn Reef (point break) and then after lunch we visited Milne (three sisters). Oh, and lunch was so good! Okay, let’s take a peek at the photos.

Ah – one tip I’ll share is that if you’re in Cairns for a few days, book your tour at the beginning on the off chance the weather is bad and you have to push your dive or snorkel back by a day or two. We booked for our first full day and had 2 back-up days just in case the weather didn’t workout.

Pre-boarding and the Boat

Here is the boat we took out – left around 8am and then got back around 6pm after a wild time seeing the largest reef in the world.

Be sure you check in at the terminal, regardless of what fleet you’re taking.

Once we got on board and they did a headcount, I took a little stroll around the boat to check things out.

Check out this video I took at the Flynn Reef – the colour is way better than the photos and gives a truer picture of what the reef looks like when you’re under the water.

Now for some photos – I have to say, the reef is far, far more beautiful in person!
