Travel: Shibuya Sky
The Shibuya Sky is a great way to see the scramble crossing, yet also an awesome way to see the city sky in Tokyo. It’s just under 230 meters above the city, and if you know me, you know I love high lookout spaces – and the sky doesn’t disappoint!
Pro Tip – buy your tickets online. When we visited not only where tickets sold out, for that day, and the next handful of days, but people were turned away. It wouldn’t be much fun if a top attraction was missed due to a lack of planning. Okay, photo time.
Shibuya Sky
We decided to go at night, after visiting the Shibuya Crossing. Experiencing the scramble first and then the views second is the way to go!
Look at all those people, and we’re not even high up, just on the landing level.
Crossing time!
Now we’re up high – all 229 meters up. So many lights, eh? The building has three areas – the Gate, which is where the photos above were taken. Then, it has the Stage, that’s the area with the roof access and the spot where we visited. The last section is the Gallery – we did check this out, but didn’t find it too interesting. The Stage with the roof access is where you want to go.
Up at the top you can walk 360 degrees around and see all of Tokyo, as far as your eyes can see. We saw the Tokyo Tower and a few parks (hello dark zones!).
All in all, the scramble was worth watching from up high. We booked tickets online for 9:00pm and spent about an hour in total checking things out. It costs us 2500 yen each, which is about 25 dollars Canadian. We did have to wait in line a bit, just for the elevator. And, one other pro tip – bring change to lock up your bags, since you can’t bring them on the roof. There are lockers to house your belongings while you’re outside.
That’s the Shibuya Sky – check out their website if you’re looking for more info. The roof is worth checking out, the city breeze and all the lights make it magical.
Thanks for visiting – see you again soon!
