Travel: Swamp Bay via Mount Rooper Hike
Swamp Bay via Mount Rooper Hike – it’s a little under 7km and took us about 2.5 hours, since we stopped on the beach for a bit. The sun is hot and the water is cool, plus, the views are magic! The hike was super quiet, we only saw one person and their dog, so worth checking out if you’re in the Airlie Beach area. Okay, let’s check out some photos.
Swamp Bay via Mount Rooper Hike
First, if you’re looking to just see the bay (that’s what the one person we saw and their dog did) then it’s a short little 30-40 minute walk to the beach. For us, we hiked Mount Rooper first, finishing at the beach.
The trail has a car park, which is great and the trail head is easy to find, especially if you’re on All Trails. Check out the Swamp Bay via Mount Rooper map on All Trails if you’re interested.
We hiked the trail counterclockwise, since the mountain side down to the beach has quite the grade. Better to hike up first, and then enjoy the cool breezy wind by Swamp Bay. Bryce was a trooper and carried our chairs!
Here’s a few of bay from the top of Mount Rooper. Such a hot sun!
Look how sweaty we look! The sun is hot and the humidity is high. If you do hike, just like on Mount Tyson, be sure to stay hydrated.
Once we made it to the beach, we broke out the chairs and enjoyed the breeze.
Oh, and at the split to the beach, there is a bit of a double back. Be sure to follow the signs, otherwise you’ll end up climbing Mount Rooper twice. Once is enough, trust us!
On our way back, we saw this guy on the trail!
We gave him a lot of space and waited until he scurried off so we could continue on our hike. I didn’t seem him at all, Bryce caught his movement and let me know before I got too close.
