Michigan Hike

It’s that time of year – time to hike. The fall colours are blooming and the weather is cool enough that you won’t over heat. It’s perfect.

A few weeks ago we were travelling to Ontario for my brother’s wedding, which was so great, and we drove through the American way. We spent one night in North Dakota and the other night in Michigan. We woke up early after our second night and decided to go for a hike for a couple of hours. The day was warm and the sun was shinning. We hiked one of the trails just off Lake Superior and made our way to Lily Pond.

The trail was full of these little signs. They are cute and quite informative. The trail system was beautiful – well taken care of and quiet. I love hiking when it’s so peaceful. Pure beauty.

Wow – look at that root system? So amazing. My picture doesn’t even do it justice, really. The fresh nature scent on our hike was energizing, too. You know when you just feel like you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be – that’s what this hike was like. Pure joy.

The little wooden planks were fun – I felt like a gymnast – they also helped to keep my feet dry.

We made it all the way to Lily Pond!

Look at all the lilies. The pond was huge and full of so many lily pads – well worth the hike. Then, it was time to hike back to the car. We talked along the way, had a few snacks, and enjoyed the sounds of the forest. All in all it was a great way to spend the morning, especially while travelling.
