Project: DIY Fabric Necklaces
A few days ago I shared with you a project Silver Rings Necklace – well, these are just as simple…and no risk of lighting your finger on fire!
What you need
- stretch fabric
- chain
- metal cutters (I used fence cutters)
First – get all your supplies ready! Pretty colours.
Cut your fabric into 1.25 inch strips.
Pull each strip so it curls inward.
Gather 3 strips together – tie a knot – braid.
With the three ends in hand, release the two outer strips, holding on tight to the centre one, push upwards to gather the braid.
Repeat 4 times.
Use your metal cutters (fence cutter, in my case) and cut the chain to length.
Take another strip and weave it in and out of the braid (on the inside of the knot) – cut the knot flush and then weave the strip though the chain and then back though the braid some more. Tie off.
Done! Neat, eh?
Want a different result? Try this…
Gather 2 strips and tie them in knots about every inch or so.
Do this 6 times.
Tie in a huge knot. Take another strip and weave it like you did in the last necklace – weave through the chain (cut to length) and done!
Try the first method again with another fabric – this time a kelly green. Only 3 strips…a bit smaller than the grey one.
Necklaces galore! Guess I’ll just have to get dressed up more often!
So awesome! And…it’ll get rid of some scraps in your fabric stash. Far better than spending over 200$ on a trendy JCrew necklace when you can make this one for 3$!
Purple is my favourite colour.
I hope you make a necklace today or this weekend.
Thanks for visiting!
