Travel: 3 Days in Cairns

3 Days in Cairns

3 days in Cairns, Queensland, Australia – it’s known as the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, but Cairns has so much more to offer. This is where we started our 4 week adventure and I’ll share a few highlights of our trip. Let’s check out Cairns!

Above I shared our accommodation, which was nice and clean, as well as three highlights of our trip. For your hotel, I suggest staying somewhere within walking distance of the reef terminal or downtown. This will give you access to some great eats as well as a bit of adventure.

We walked just about everywhere and enjoyed the scenery along the ocean front.

The first thing we did on our full day in Cairns was snorkel the Great Barrier Reef. If you have the chance, be sure to check it out!

The GBR, as it’s known by locals, took up our full first day. On our second day we checked out the Cairns Aquarium and had some lunch at the Dundee Cafe. Worth it! Here are some highlights of our aquarium visit.

Now for lunch! I had gluten free fish and chips while Bryce had the spicy chicken tacos. Both meals were delicious.

On the third day, after picking up our rental car, we visited the Mossman Gorge. The drive north from Cairns is worth the trip alone. The gorge is massive, and in the middle of a rainforest.

After a long day of hiking we were in the mood for some Thai food. True Thai has the best reviews and the food was spicy and tasty – well worth the visit. Bryce had the pad thai and I had the chili basil stir fry.
