Travel: Freehand Hotel Chicago
Where to stay in Chicago? You can’t beat the location of the Freehand Hotel Chicago. Seriously, it’s right in River North, about 2 blocks from Michigan Avenue and half a block from the L train. It’s an adorable place to stay, yet it’s not without some faults. I’ll share below!
Freehand Hotel Chicago
They are a small hipsteresque hotel chain with locations in New York, Los Angeles, and Miami. Their location in Chicago looks awesome. Don’t be fooled, though – you probably wont’ get a room that looks exactly like one of the photos. You will, however, get that ideal location.
There is a small cafe to the left when you walk in, the lobby is to the right, and straight back is the lounge. Super comfortable for hanging out and having a snack.
For us, it’s all about being clean and this place is just that. Super clean – the bathroom was big and spacious and the bed pretty comfortable.
Something that’s lacking – storage. No dresser to put items on, just one small side table. That’s it. No cup to help with brushing your teeth and saving water, no place to set your purse down or even your laptop.
The bathroom – although clean, it was massive. Seems like a waste of space – they could put a shelving unit in the bathroom. Also, check out the shower. See that little shelf? That’s it! A small 4 inch by 1 inch shelf which would only hold a razor, not a bar of soap and not a bottle of shampoo. For me, someone with curly hair, I don’t wash my hair every day so I like shelves. Keeps my hair dry (yes, I also have a shower cap, but that’s not the point) since I don’t like reaching down to the floor for my soap and face wash. No thank you.
Freehand – get some shelves.
Some awesome and adorable details are the art, maps of Chicago and the words of wisdom scattered throughout the hotel. It’s fresh and fun.
Oh, and lights – the rooms are pretty dark, or at least our room was. Great wifi and top-notch location. Seriously, the location can’t be beat.
We stayed 5 days, 4 nights – from a Tuesday to a Saturday in a Queen room.
Would we stay here again? Yes!
Happy Saturday and I hope you’re having a smashingly good weekend. Bye!
