Travel: Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum
The Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum is a wonderful place to spend a couple of hours. The art, the history, and the fun! It’s a delight. Check out some impactful pieces that make you head tilt to one side in wonder. We visited the Tokyo Met after the Ueno Zoo – did both, along with the SensÅ-ji before a late lunch.
First, be sure you spend a few moments outside the museum – there are some wonderful pieces outside! Okay, let’s take a look.

The sign is stunning – I’m curious what it would look like at night with the lights.
Can you see us in the reflection below?!
This piece reminds me of some outdoor art we saw in Museo de Arte Moderno. It’s the angular blocks.
Inside there are four galleries on the main floor, full of mostly pieces that hang on the wall. Then, don’t forget to head downstairs to see some of the sculpture pieces. Also, you have to see the coins! Okay, first the wall pieces.
The pieces above are stunning and the dinosaur one below is just too much fun, don’t you think?!
Up next we have a version of what looks like Where’s Waldo?
Isn’t it cool? I love the soup pouring on the left – the man with the hat on looks so excited to get some!
Up next the sculptures.
This one is my favourite – it’s like a fun barrier and something I would suspect to see on a country road blocking dirt bikes and quads from entering a farmer’s land.
Last up are the coins. They’re neat, eh? We took the Shinkansen three times while we were in Japan, and they’re incredibly fast. Plus, we got to see Mount Fuji on the way.
Well, there you have it – the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. Check it out, or any art museum, they’re fun!
