Recipe: Carolina Gold BBQ Sauce
Carolina Gold BBQ sauce – it’s mustard based and a tad bit spicy. Let’s get started and fire up the BBQ!
Okay, I love mustard. Hot mustard is the only way to enjoy fries, and mustard on a chicken burger is just the right amount of zip. So, I wanted to try a BBQ sauce that was less sweet and more punchy – and here it is, this quick and easy gold sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 cup of yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon of agave
- 2 teaspoons of soy sauce (gluten free)
- 1 teaspoon of bird’s eye chili
- 1/4 cup of brown sugar
- 1/4 cup of cider vinegar
- salt and pepper to taste
First, mix all of the ingredients together. Then, add to a small pot and heat until it starts to bubble. Once it starts to bubble simmer for 5-7 minutes.
The bird’s eye chili adds some heat and fire to the sauce.
Once it’s cool you can store up to about 5 days. Or, pour into a dish and eat with roasted fries right away.
I marinated chicken drumsticks for about 12 hours in the Carolina gold BBQ sauce. Pour into a freezer bag and massage into the chicken for 2-3 minutes. Then, let it sit in the fridge for at least 3 hours before firing up the BBQ.
See – they look so good.
Since there is sugar in the recipe, if you do BBQ with it, be sure to turn the items frequently – you don’t want anything to burn.
Well, there you have it – a different take on a BBQ sauce. Something not so sweet and full of bright flavours. Try it – you’ll be happy you did!
Or just save for french fries – your call.
Thanks so much for visiting and I’ll see you again soon. Happy cooking and enjoy the long weekend!
